The Thai Buddhist community in Aberdeen is working towards building a temple and have started a programme of events. You can read their new website here.
The Wednesday evening meeting is back from its summer break, starting again on the 22nd of August. The first two meetings will be:
22/8/12 – Introduction to meditation – Alan
29/8/12 – Working in meditation – Nigel
The September-December programme isn’t quite ready yet, but will be kicking off with a talk by Khemaka on the 5th.
The Quaker Meeting House will be closed on the 28th of December and there will be no meeting. We’ll start up again the week after, on the 4th of January. In the meantime, merry midwinter, Yule, Christmas, Chanukah, Hogmanay and the rest to you all.
Our Sunday study group is going on to a new book, making it a good time to join if you’re interested. It’s open to all members of the group – the only requirement is that you have read the chapter that we are discussing. The next meeting will be on the 30th of October and we usually meet every two weeks after that.
The book is ‘In the Buddha’s Words’ by Bhikkhu Bodhi. It’s a selection of writings from the Pali Canon, grouped together by subject and given a short introduction in each chapter, building up to a comprehensive picture of the teachings.
The book is available from Wisdom Books.
