Meetings

Until the 23rd of October our in-person meetings will held in the Quaker Meeting House, 98-100 Crown Street. From the 30th of October they will be held in the Love Yoga studio at 42 Union Terrace.

We meet every Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. We sometimes take a break over the summer so please check the posts on the Home page. The usual format of a meeting is a meditation, a tea break, a talk and a discussion.

Before attending other meetings we recommend coming to one of our Introduction to Meditation and/or Introduction to Buddhism courses which are also listed on the Home page.

There is no fixed charge to attend: the costs of the meeting are covered by donation. Suggested donations are Β£2 to Β£5 depending on income. Donations can be made in cash at meetings or there are alternative methods at Contributing to the group.

  1. Hello,

I have been a resident in aberdeen for over a year now and before that IIsatyed in Stirling where I was for a time attending a Buddhist group. I would really like to attend your group to come back to my Buddhist practice. I realize that it is stated that to attend the regular Wednesday group it is recommended that one goes to an introductory weekend but the environment I work in (newton de village community, a shared living community with adults with special needs) did not allow me to attend those days specified in the website. As I am slightly familiar with the meditation and the environment of a Buddhist group would I be permitted to attend on a Wednesday evening? I really wish to explore and commit more deeply to Buddhism . Warm regards,Laura

      1. Thank you. I am jetting off on a wee holiday tomorrow so will be back to attend the 28th meeting. I look forward to meeting to all.

  2. Hi Alan,
my situation is similar to Laura’s in that I have not attended an introductory course due to work environment, but have practised meditation and been part of a Buddhist environment elsewhere. I will come around tomorrow evening to participate in your Wednesday evening. Thank you

  3. Hello

    Liliana

  4. Hello
I wondered if it is ok for my partner and I to come along to the introductory sessions starting on the 11th of January?
    Many thanks
    Valerie

  5. HI,
Do you have any places available for beginners? I would like to come along and see if meditation would be beneficial for my anxiety.

    1. Hi Rebekah. Yes, the introductions this Saturday and next Wednesday (see home page) are both suitable for beginners and have plenty of places left.

  6. Hello, I just found your group and would be very interesting in joining. I have recently moved back to Aberdeen after many years in the Shire, I was born and brought up here and practice Tibetan Buddhism. I also volunteer with the United Nations For a Free Tibet & the Tibet Support Group Grampian.

My main drawback is that I’m pretty much wheelchair bound, have no transport of my own, so largely depend on the kindness of others and taxis to get about right now, I’m in the process of waiting for more help/care coming in, would this be a problem? I can’t push my chair outside easily so would need help that way. If you could accomodate me, I could get myself to your meetings I think, by taxi. Please let me know what yout think. Thank you.

    1. Hi Shona
I’m sure we could work something out. We did have a person attending in a wheelchair previously. The main challenge then was making sure that people didn’t block access when they parked. Beyond that there is a wheelchair ramp up to the door of the Quaker Meeting House and things are generally wheelchair compatible inside (including a toilet). I think it would be a good idea if we gave you the mobile numbers of a few people in the group as how close a taxi can get can vary, although it is usually close. Can you send an email to aberdeenbuddhistgroup@yahoo.co.uk?
      Cheers
      Alan

  7. Hello Alan, thanks so much for getting back to me and the info. I certainly will send an email to you, through my Gmail and will be happy to exchange phone numbers πŸ™‚ Currently I only have a landline phone but hope to get a cheap mobile sometime in future and am happy to call mobile numbers. I will send you that email tonight if I can or tomorrow at latest.

    Thank you again,
    Shona

  8. Hi Alan,

I am interested in coming along to join your group. I have awareness of buddhism and meditation (although it is quite recent, through a thai group of friends here in aberdeen). would it be ok to come along to the wednesday session? Thank you in advance

  9. Hi Alan

I would like to come along to a class. I have never attended classes before but have read up on material. What us the best class for me to attend.

    Thanks
    Susan

  10. Sorry, I replied to the wrong comment and should have said Susan, not Kelly. But next week’s class is still the one I’d recommend πŸ™‚

  11. Hi there,
I would like to come to your meetings but I have never attended a Buddhist meeting before. Do you have any introductory events coming up soon?
    Kind regards.

    1. Hi Roslyn. We have been struggling to find enough volunteers to run both regular and introductory classes, so we don’t have any in the programme at the moment. We are currently having a bit of a rethink about how to run the group to free up more energy for introductions and we’ll post something once we work something out.
